The Guardian: Antisemitism on Social Media

Updated: Mar 20, 2022

This simply structured article discusses the rising levels of antisemitism across social media platforms, specifically in the newly frequent style of conspiracy theories, holocaust denial, and the casual posting of meme content.

Some example of antisemitic events taking place in real life as antisemitic rhetoric online increases, as outlined by this article

"Britain’s Community Security Trust[...] said last month it had recorded 1,308 anti-Jewish hate incidents nationwide in the first half of this year, the highest total in the first half of any year. " - Ben Quinn

This article posted on the Guardian by Ben Quinn outlines the rising levels of antisemitic content across social media platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, and Twitter. According to Quinn, not only are the rising percentages frightening, but the content is being posted and spread by a new younger generation that is technically literate and prone to hateful ideas previously unable to be seen without the "help" of social media. Quinn also discusses the lack of action taken against the huge amount of antisemitic content and the very real world affects this content has on the Jewish community around the world.
